Coldplay Biography

Coldplay was formed in London in 1996 when vocalist and pianist Chris Martin and guitarist Jonny Buckland met as students at University College London. They recruited bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion to complete the lineup. After releasing two EPs, they debuted with the album Parachute in 2000, which produced their breakthrough single Yellow — a song that became an anthem for a generation. Their second album A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) cemented them as one of the most important rock bands in the world, winning the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), produced by Brian Eno, reached number one in over 30 countries and is considered their masterpiece. Their concerts evolved into full-scale light shows with LED wristbands and theatrical spectacle. Their Music of the Spheres World Tour (2022-2024) became one of the highest-grossing concert tours in history.
