Doechii

Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, known professionally as Doechii, was born on August 14, 1998, in Tampa, Florida. Growing up in Tampa's South Side, she was drawn to performance from childhood, participating in theater and choir before discovering hip-hop. She began posting music online as a teenager and built a grassroots following with her bold, irreverent style. After being discovered and signing with Top Dawg Entertainment — the legendary label home of Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and Isaiah Rashad — she released the mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal in 2024, a dense, genre-defying project that received near-universal critical acclaim. At the 2025 Grammy Awards, she won Best Rap Album, announcing herself to mainstream audiences as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary hip-hop.
