Rob Reiner

Robert Norman Reiner was born on March 6, 1947, in The Bronx, New York City, to legendary comedian and filmmaker Carl Reiner and Estelle Reiner. Growing up in a showbusiness household, Rob's path to entertainment was almost inevitable. He studied at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television. He became a household name playing Michael 'Meathead' Stivic — Archie Bunker's liberal son-in-law — on the groundbreaking CBS sitcom All in the Family (1971-1979). After the show ended, he pivoted to directing, and produced one of the most remarkable runs in Hollywood history: This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992) — six films in eight years, spanning comedy, coming-of-age drama, fairy tale, romantic comedy, thriller, and legal drama.

Rob Reiner's directorial run in the late 1980s and early 1990s is considered one of the greatest in Hollywood history. Few directors have successfully worked across so many genres with such consistent quality. The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally remain among the most beloved films of their eras and continue to be discovered by new generations. He is also a committed political activist, particularly on issues of first amendment rights and healthcare.
